We train in the "Big Dojo" room in the Canadian Japanese Cultural Centre of Hamilton (the CJCC is across from Zarky's on the east Mountain). 

New Students

New Students:
  • new students can come watch a class or join at any time of the year.
  • please come any Tues. or Thurs. to watch a class. A teacher will make the effort to check in with you before class begins and again during the class to see if you have any questions.
  • for students who wish to join, a 2-month commitment is required.

Adult Classes

Tuesday: 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Thursday: 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Friday: 6:45-7:45 p.m.
Tues.: Michael Kimeda Sensei (7th degree black belt)
Thurs.: David Sloan Sensei (6th degree black belt)
Fri.: John Corr Sensei (4th degree black belt).
* Note: Fridays are only open to students who have demonstrated proficiency with ukemi (falling) and basic weapons (bokken). 

On Tues. and Thurs from 7:30-8:30, junior students are taught by the most senior instructors. They will train with senior students or other junior students to practice basic movements, joint locks, and throws.

Techniques are taught step-by-step so that students learn the details that make the techniques effective. Students will gradually be introduced to ukemi: basic rolls, breakfalls, and, eventually, flipping.
